Resting against the trunk on the ground was much better than leaning against it. The bark still hurt against his back however. He moved his hand slightly from his arm that he was putting pressure on to stop some bleeding from the nasty cut wound.

“A lot of places on my back is a mess. 3 places on my right leg. This spot and 4 other spots on my other arm. And about 2 places on my front.” He was a mess, but Emil probably already knew that. Though if he wasn’t a wreck and as emotional as a brick at the moment he might have rolled his eyes at Emil’s forgetfulness. Not now though. He couldn’t honestly care if Emil just now remembered he had an apple gel. He took it and muttered a thanks and ate it. He preferred the dish variant but he didn’t have room to complain.

            “Right.

Emil did not wait. He would not do so. His fingers gently moved, going forward to unfasten belts and tug away the scarf, resting it to the side. All this could wait. He just needed to focus on the bandages, the [ things ] which would stop bleeding and provide stability when moving. Once the shirt had come off, his next was to take off whatever was left of the bleeding mess which was tattered and broken cloth clinging to his arm.

“I’ll d-deal with your legs afterwards.”

It was a for-warning, just so that he knew he would. It wasn’t just because he couldn’t or was too embarrassed to, but rather a conscious choice. His hands then went, digging through his pack for salve, sliding stinging poltice which would cause some pain without second thought.

Ratatosk would be able to handle a bit of extra pain, if what he was going through now didn’t already tell one that.

Did Emil think he couldn’t apply the bandages himself? Not that he cared too much, but he had to say that the determined touch in the others voice didn’t leave room for him to argue. He simply obliged and did what Emil had asked.

Leaning on Emil for some kind of support was challenging since everywhere pretty much felt like he got thrown under horses, but he wasn’t going to complain. Though his sharp intakes of breath must have been making it obvious. The second Ratatosk got out of these woods, he was going to take a long nap. That’s what he decided. He was sure however, that was going to end up happening anyway the second some kind of sense of safety was felt. Exhaustion tended to work that way.

image

“It’ll be okay,” he voiced it enough, hearing the sharp hiss through his mouth. He knew the other’s condition must have been bad, but … It was worrying that Ratatosk was this badly injured. Especially on his lonesome. Had he no-one else around? Slowly, he inched Ratatosk to the ground to rest against the trunk of the tree. “I promise, I’ll take c-care of you.

This was where now the difficult part came in. “I need you to to point out wh-where your injuries are ( or the not-obvious ones ) some might need me to remove clothes … “ Maybe, Emil was unsure. If the other had as many bruises ( as it appeared ) than it would be prudent to take get them cleansed and bandaged as soon as possible. Though, something told him he might have some arguments there.

“Here, this should d-dull some of the pain.

Of course now Emil hands over the apple gel, a gingerly awkward smile wrapping his mouth. He’d forgotten it … the obvious guilty look to doing so was befitting him.

ratatosk!

Ratatosk shot an in unintentional glare at Emil not realizing it was him at first and quickly adjusted to soften the gaze. He was leaning up against a tree covering one of the latest wounds he received with his hand while not caring if Emil saw the other cuts and bruises that plagued his body. How long did Ratatosk go missing in these woods, and if Emil is here, is he anywhere near to getting out of them. Out of them would be nice.

“No.” The reply was a bit cold and stiff, but Ratatosk didn’t have the energy to lie about his well being “Have any bandages? I ran out.”

“Uhn! I do. Just give me a s-second.

Emil was quick to move. Getting closer to Ratatosk and pulling out bandages from his bag before pausing, glancing at Ratatosk, then to the bandages. There were a few things that Emil was unsure about here. One of which was Ratatosk’s ability to apply these bandages on his lonesome. After all, he was badly cut, even the harsh gaze hadn’t been enough to deter him from wanting to move forward and help the Lord.

The next was Ratatosk’s stiffness. There was usually some standing between them, the quickly force of a softened gaze, the inability to recognize his voice … all of that worried Emil. He didn’t know whether or not he should try to go for help ( ratatosk probably wouldn’t like that much ) or if he should stay and apply the bandages himself.

With a breath and a set jaw, the young boy moved inward, slowly. “Here,” his voice was soft, keeping the bandages to himself, “lean on me, f-for a little bit, then I can set you down o the ground. I’ll take care of your wounds this time.

His words did not provide room for argument, green eyes were sincere in their response. It would be him taking care of Ratatosk this time, instead of the other way around.

Ratatosk flopped heavily onto the couch before grumbling about how much he hates Idiots What he forgot to take into consideration was that he wasn't the only one in the room.

A soft snicker of laughter spilled between lips as a grin worked it’s way up. Leaning back upon arms, a mop of blonde hair fell backwards, ahoge falling with it as eyes looked coyly at the obviously frustrated spirit. “Hehe .. th-that’s not nice to say, Ratatosk. What’s g-got you so mad, this time?

Emil doubted whoever this person was who annoyed Ratatosk was, was truly an idiot. Though, he might as well hear Ratatosk out and try to help him through this, yes?

“She asked me how babies are born. Relationships is easy; You find someone you like a lot and you make sure to never lose them” Everyone can tell that Ratatosk failed incredibly on how to be romantic and got a gold medal for blunt.

“It was really out of the blue too. How does one even reply to that question without explaining it awkwardly?” He huffed a sigh

image

   "Ah…w-well, relationships aren’t that easy, Ratatosk …

There were a good percentage of variables, and the other blonde had certainly been meaning towards the more romantic side of such a thing. Yet the mention of babies being born, his face flushed lightly. What would bring this up was certainly a good question, yet he decided to simply let that one hang in the air.

                        ”Well…I m-mean…you’re really good at
                          explaining things straight forward s-so
                          maybe j-just saying …

Emil couldn’t even begin to wrap his mouth around the word sex without a plumage of red covering his face.

“Yeah..” He rubbed the back of his head awkwardly when Emil laughed.

“Still good at cooking and making it look inedible, but beyond terrible at parenting. Lyra asked me a few questions that were… hard to explain…. I guess.”

image

   "Oh?

Emil’s head cants. There’s a pause, as-if awaiting an explanation to what was ‘hard to explain’. After all, surely it couldn’t have been anything too bad. They were quite a hardy duo ( Emil and Ratatosk ) so to have something trip Ratatosk up –

A grin lifts the corners of his lips. ”D-Don’t tell me, was it about relationships?

“I’m fine. ish. Fine ish…. Fine ish ish…” Why did that roll off his tongue so naturally. Weird.
“Still terrible at everything”

   "Fine-ish?“

A small laugh spills beyond lips, and Emil appears normal
once more.                         ”N-neh, I’m sure that’s not true.
                                             You’re still good at cooking.

“Why do you always ‘know something that might cheer’ me up?”
He asked incredulously. “Did someone stick an antenna up your ass, and it just so happens to work, or is that what the ahoge is for?”
he didn’t mind Emil being here, but he had to wonder sometimes how the boy seemingly knew.

"Because, y-you’re my friend. I try to know
how to help my fr-friends …

Though truthfully, Emil didn’t know half the time how he
guessed correctly on how to help the other spirit. Maybe
it did have something to do with the strange piece of
hair that stood up on it’s own.

”It’s up ahead in my room at the i-inn,
    I h-hope you don’t mind a bit of a
